Community Choice Aggregation (CCA) customers of Marin Clean Energy (MCE) typically pay lower rates and receive higher rates of renewable energy than they would get from their investor owned utility, Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E). However, new MCE customers in American Canyon are questioning whether or not their rates will be lower than rates they receive from PG&E. The change in the trend of lower pricing comes from the Power Charge Indifference Adjustment (PCIA): an exit fee charged to customers of CCAs in the state of California that appears on their monthly utility bills.

“PG&E customers in American Canyon will soon be getting notices from their new energy provider, Marin Clean Energy, about a switch approved last year by the City Council. But it remains to be seen if the change to MCE will be cheaper for local ratepayers or those in the rest of the Napa Valley.”
